A characteristic feature of the Conax® clutch type CM is the symmetrical friction ring that moves loosely between the conical discs. It is divided into six segments, which are held together by a tension spring. Axial displacements of the shafts are equalised in the bore of the casing when the clutch is disengaged. The contact forces are cancelled out in the system; there is no axial load on the machine bearings when the clutch is engaged.
