Mill Drivetrain Repair
The scope of work covered the main drive (TGW spur gear unit SBN 630) and the auxiliary drive (WGW bevel helical gear unit KCN 250) and included all steps from dismantling to recommissioning.
Step 1 – On-site dismantling and removal
After laser-optical measurement of the existing alignment, the main and auxiliary drives, including the motors, were professionally uncoupled and dismantled. The units were then transported directly to the Arnsberg service facility using company-owned logistics.
Step 2 – Overhaul and conversion at the Arnsberg workshop
The auxiliary drive was completely dismantled, inspected and overhauled. This included mechanical reworking of housing and sealing surfaces, replacement of bearings and seals, reassembly and precise adjustment of the gearbox, as well as a successful test run on the test bench.
At the same time, the main drive was converted: couplings were removed from the old gearbox, refurbished and installed on the new unit. After completion, both drives were repainted, packed and delivered directly back to site.
Step 3 – Installation and commissioning
On site, the main and auxiliary drives were installed on their foundations, precisely aligned and coupled to the motors. After installation of the lubrication system, reassembly of the safety guards and a successful trial run, the system was recommissioned and the site work was completed.
Step 4 – Overhaul of the old gearbox
The removed main drive gearbox was fully dismantled at the Arnsberg workshop, measured and documented. Following the replacement of all relevant bearings and sealing elements, the gearbox was reassembled, subjected to a test and preservation run, repainted and finally delivered to the customer.
Result
Thanks to a structured approach, short transport routes and the close integration of on-site service and workshop activities, system downtime was reduced to a minimum and a sustainable, high-quality technical solution was achieved.
